The transfer window has opened and the rumour mill is working overtime to work out who is going where. The newspapers haven’t reported anything new about the alleged rift between Wayne Rooney and Sir Alex Ferguson. Newcastle are supposed to be interested in buying Andy Carroll back from Liverpool – but not for more than £10m for the striker they sold to the Anfield club for £35m a year ago according to the Sun. Carroll has stuggled to establish himself at Anfield and manager Dalglish may have lost patience with Carroll.

In another paper, the Magpies would be willing to pay about £15m for Carroll, but the Tyneside club believes Liverpool’s valuation could be closer to £25m according to the Times .

Newcastle are trying to fend off potential buyers by putting a £15m price tag on goalkeeper Tim Krul , according to the Sun

Newly installed QPR manager Mark Hughes has made Chelsea striker Didier Drogba his number one transfer target , according to the Daily Star .

Today’s Balotelli story ( not involving fireworks ) – striker Mario Balotelli has dismissed reports he wants to quit Manchester City , according to talkSport.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp wants his chairman Daniel Levy to stump up £7m for Bolton defender Gary Cahill, whose proposed move to Chelsea has stalled over his wage demands and his preference to move to a club where he is assured of being a first choice, according to the Times . It looked like the Cahill move was going to be completed last week , but Chelsea are still holding out on his wages . They need to be aware of financial restrictions placed on them by club owner Abramovich and UEFA’s fair play regulations.

Arsenal starlet Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain wants to leave the club on loan during the transfer window to boost his chances of getting on the plane for Euro 2012 , according to the Daily Star . Since he hasn’t started for England this seems like a distant hope for the player.

Wayne Rooney denies trying to get Kompany sent off

Manchester City boss Robery Mancini has accused United striker Roooney of waving an imaginary red card at the referee during Sunday’s match to get Kompany sent off. Rooney denies this and says he just raised his arms to claim a foul. Today the FA rejected Kompany’s appeal against the red card and confirmed the four match ban. Kompany has been one of Manchester City’s best players this season and his ban starts with tomorrow’s match against Liverpool in the Carling Cup semi-final.

Man City move for Rooney?

Rumours in the Sunday Mirror about a possible £60 million offer for striker Wayne Rooney. The story is that there is an uneasy truce at the moment between manager Ferguson and Rooney. In October 2010 Rooney said the club lacked ambition and said he wanted to leave. United were forced to offer him a new £250,000 a Contract to keep him happy. Now history may be repeating itself. If the is any chance of this story developing it would have to be this month during the January window.
